What will we work on in lessons?

Each student's curriculum is personalized based on their individual needs and interests and the requirements of their band program, when applicable. For most students, this means we'll spend most of the fall (and summer, if we start early) working on honor band audition music and most of the spring working on a solo piece for their school's solo and ensemble competition. Regardless of the specific goals we're working on, there will also always be a focus on fundamentals like range building, tone, and timing.

How much do lessons cost and how can I pay?

My usual rates are $30/half-hour and $50/hour, and I accept cash, checks, Venmo, PayPal, and Zelle, whichever is easiest for you! If you're interested in lessons but those rates are a financial burden, please still reach out; some band programs offer scholarships to make lessons more accessible for their students.

Where and when will lessons take place?

Usually, lessons will take place at your/your child's school (or sometimes the corresponding high school, based on your directors' availability). Many band programs allow for lessons during band class, in which cases I pull students out of band class once a week for the duration of the lesson, but I also offer after-school lessons!

What should I do if I can't make it to a scheduled lesson?

Please let me know as soon as you know if you'll be late or have to cancel a lesson for any reason. I don't mind rescheduling or taking a week off as needed, and I will only still request payment if you don't communicate at least an hour in advance, to cover the cost of time and travel.

What supplies will I need to purchase for lessons?

I won't ask you to buy anything extra for lessons, instead favoring materials you already have and, for anything that doesn't cover, I will make and bring copies of anything we're working on!
